Project 2 Outline

This is the outline to my project 2 draft.

The "Sections of The Paper" reading influenced the structure of my outline in various ways.  Most importantly, through it I realized the importance of having an analytical claim.  Without the analytical claim there is a definite lack of meaning behind the analysis because there is no clear reference to what the analysis supports.  Thanks to this I will put more emphasis on the analytical claim.  Additionally, my conclusion will consist of more than just a summary of the prior text, and will go further into depth analyzing where things went right or wrong.

Outline:

Intro: Go over the event that is the cause for the discussion/article.  Why China would have attacked, whether or not they really did, and whether it matters if they did at all.  An outraged quote could be used here for some dramatic effect.

Thesis: My thesis will be a short analyzation of the rhetorical techniques and effects of them.  I will most likely use one of my two thesis statements from my prior blog post.

Body Paragraph #1: This paragraph will go over the important use of experts within the field.  They are used and quoted throughout, alongside the fact that many of their claims are connected to the word "expert" to increase credibility.  I will use quotes to highlight one of the many uses of this. The rest of the paragraph will be analyzing and summarizing this tactic and how it helps and hurts credibility.

Body Paragraph #2:  I will base this body paragraph on the use of those affected to increase emotional appeal.  There are multiple quotes from frustrated and scared federal workers that are essential to the articles emotional effect, which would otherwise be stale and cold with the focus on government and technology.

Body Paragraph #3
My third body paragraph will be dedicated to the look into the past and possible future decisions that could or should be made concerning the issue of internet security within the government.  I will analyze how this adds to his credibility.

Conclusion: All in all, the rhetorical strategies used are effective despite their potential pitfalls. I will briefly touch on where things went right and where they went wrong in my conclusion.

Reflection:

After reading some other outlines, I found that some were far more concise but similarly effective.  I think that I could have put some more effort into the organization of it all, for when I am writing the first draft of my project, I will need it.  Aside from that, I think that my outline does it's job.
